Smart Streets, Safer Steps

Taipei is committed to enhancing walkability and
overall quality of life. To ensure pedestrian safety, the
city has led the nation in launching “Pedestrian Priority
Zones,” implementing Leading Pedestrian Intervals,
and removing scooters from sidewalk arcades. Taipei
also promotes human-centered street design, with
measures such as installing pedestrian refuge islands
at major intersections and improving or adding clearly
marked sidewalks—creating a safer and more equitable
walking environment.
